Preparing in a meat utensil food that will be eaten together with milk dishes
Question
I have a meat griddle pan (a certain kind of a frying pan that fries food in a special way), which I haven’t used for at least 24 hours. I want to use it to fry fish and to eat this fish with milk dishes. Am I allowed to do that? I should note that I don’t have the same kind of a frying pan that fries in the same way for milk dishes.

If one doesn’t have another utensil, one is allowed to prepare a parve dish in a meat utensil, provided that it hasn’t been used for at least 24 hours, even if one intends to eat this dish with milk – and this is according to all opinions. The Sephardic custom is to allow it even if one does have another utensil. Even in that case one is allowed to use a utensil that hasn’t been used for 24 hours to cook food that will be eaten with the opposite kind (milk vs. meat).
