Studying Literature on Shabbat
Question
Is it permissible to study literature on Shabbat for a test, if the material is related to topics about Judaism, for example, the story of Hillel on the roof of the Beit Midrash, etc?
And what is the halacha regarding reading and analyzing non-Jewish stories, is it permitted to read them, and to analyze them?
Answer
Shalom
According to the letter of the law, one may be lenient.
Therefore, it would be permitted for girls.
However, with regard to boys, a G-d-fearing person should be stringent and refrain from studying anything non-religious on Shabbat.
